[this is good] You can make her participate in tournaments....most of the tournaments happen during weekends...there should be spot entries..make Vasundara participate in a competition and if she is interested, then you can then think about coaching, clubs and such..
There are several chess clubs in Chennai ....you can check this site for one near your home....
Ten years down the lane when you have a GM at home ....you know whom to thank right?
I'll have ME to thank, huh? I mean, not me me but ME ME.
Thanks for the useful link. I should have known that with the world champion from our city, there would naturally be a sincere following online.
I totally agree with Anand that "..children should be allowed to enjoy the game." Right now, I'd rather let V enjoy the game at home. Will give it a couple more years before going on to professional training, if she is still interested. Using the same logic for her other talents/interests as well - music, painting and story writing. Can't wait to see where her heart lies.
Yes... I completely agree with that approach....My parents pushed me to music classes when I was 5...but I had no interest towards music...I had no voice or ear for it....I struggled with music classes for 7 years ...today ...forget singing...I cannot even identify a raaga!
I have been reading your blog for quite sometime ...hopped from Terri's ...had to delurk on this post ...I started chess at a grand old age of 12(in chess player terms)....
where did rest of my comment vanish?...It was something like this...
& I started competing when I was 13...was able to play at state level couple of times but never made it to the nationals...the reason being...I was 15...you know...10th..12th...entrance....I always felt I should have started early...
Btw Vish Anand started at 6...Your soon to be 6 could be like Anand one day!!
Can my soon-to-be6 be like you instead? Thanks for delurking. 10th 12th entrance can go soak, IMHO. Ah, those bring back horrid memories and I hope my li'l one will never have to go through that agony. I'd be most thrilled if she can play chess with me (or sing a song or dance a jig) the day before her math public exam, instead of running around like a chicken on fire like I did.
[this is good] I think (b) too!
